For business owners
Attracting anchor investors to your IPO
1.What is an anchor investor in an IPO?
An anchor investor is a qualified institutional buyer (a mutual fund, insurer, AIF or foreign fund) that commits to part of the institutional portion one working day before the issue opens. A strong anchor book signals quality to other investors.
2.How does a company get anchor investors for its IPO?
The lead managers market the issue to institutions through roadshows before launch. Companies with clean governance, clear growth plans and a sensible valuation attract stronger anchor books. Pre-IPO preparation is what makes those meetings work.
3.Do SME IPOs have anchor investors?
Yes. SME issues can allocate part of the QIB portion to anchor investors, and many recent SME IPOs have done so. This page shows which institutions have anchored SME and Mainboard issues.
